Corporate Changes At Dragonfish Slot Sites
The Dragonfish brand has until recently always been best known for its bingo. So the news, announced in December 2021, that 888 Holdings was to sell its entire online bingo business was received as a bit of a bombshell. The buyers are the owners of online bingo rivals Broadway Gaming, with the final cost expected to be around $50 million.
The deal is a complex one though, because 888 Holdings are only disposing of the bingo parts of the business. The casino side of things is remaining with 888. For this reason, the disentangling of the two sections will take some time. The deal is not expected to be completed until the summer of 2022, or even later.
What are 888 up to?
The sale of its bingo interests is just part of a new long term strategic plan for 888 Holdings. Historically, bingo has been the main focus of the Dragonfish brand, but this is now about to change. Bingo is a relatively ‘mature’ market. This business/economics jargon basically means that the online bingo industry is relatively settled and stable. This has advantages and disadvantages: on the plus side, it is difficult for newer, fresher and innovative rivals to break into the industry as the larger incumbents are already well established. On the downside, it is difficult for existing companies to expand their business other than through acquisitions, and the prospects for rapid growth are low.
On the other hand, the online casino market is seen as being ripe for further expansion with more room to innovate and expand. It is also seen as more in line with 888 Holdings’ other casino interests and its new strategy of moving into the sports betting market. This new direction was announced in September 2021, with 888 acquiring the UK online and high street sports betting brand William Hill for around £2 billion. This is also a complex deal, but it too is expected to be completed in the summer of 2022.
What does this mean for Dragonfish Slot Sites?
