Corporate Changes At Dragonfish Slot Sites

The Dragonfish brand has until recently always been best known for its bingo. In fact, throughout the two to three decade history of the industry, it has been perhaps the biggest name in online bingo. So the news, announced in December 2021, that 888 Holdings was to sell its entire online bingo business was received as a bit of a bombshell. The buyers are the owners of online bingo rivals Broadway Gaming, with the final cost expected to be around $50 million.

The deal is a complex one though, because 888 Holdings are only disposing of the bingo parts of the business. The casino side of things is remaining with 888. For this reason, the disentangling of the two sections will take some time. The deal is not expected to be completed until the summer of 2022, or even later.

What are 888 up to?

The sale of its bingo interests is just part of a new long term strategic plan for 888 Holdings. Historically, bingo has been the main focus of the Dragonfish brand, but this is now about to change. Bingo is a relatively ‘mature’ market. This business/economics jargon basically means that the online bingo industry is relatively settled and stable. This has advantages and disadvantages: on the plus side, it is difficult for newer, fresher and innovative rivals to break into the industry as the larger incumbents are already well established. On the downside, it is difficult for existing companies to expand their business other than through acquisitions, and the prospects for rapid growth are low.

On the other hand, the online casino market is seen as being ripe for further expansion with more room to innovate and expand. It is also seen as more in line with 888 Holdings’ other casino interests and its new strategy of moving into the sports betting market. This new direction was announced in September 2021, with 888 acquiring the UK online and high street sports betting brand William Hill for around £2 billion. This is also a complex deal, but it too is expected to be completed in the summer of 2022.

What does this mean for Dragonfish Slot Sites?

At the time of writing, the future is difficult to predict with any degree of certainty. One thing that is for sure is that it is likely to be a good thing for Dragonfish slot sites. The new focus on the casino and sports betting divisions of its business means that more resources are likely to be put into slot site development, as the investment previously targeted at its bingo interests can now be reallocated.

Another thing which is likely to happen is a re-branding. At the moment, it is difficult to be sure which specific businesses will be affected and which form any re-brand may take. Broadway Gaming have purchased the Dragonfish bingo brand, which is by far the most ‘famous’ part of the business. It may be that they would prefer to keep that brand name (much like the parts of Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin empire, which have been sold off, often keep the iconic Virgin branding.

If this is the case, it would seem logical for 888 Holdings to re-brand its Dragonfish slot sites. On the other hand, if Broadway Gaming were to decide to re-brand their new bingo business, maybe Dragonfish Slots will live on. As far as is known, nothing has been decided, although it is possible that these matters have been decided as part of the sale agreement, or are matters of negotiation to be resolved before the final settlement and split. Watch this space.

What will it mean for Dragonfish Slots Players?

It seems likely that there will be lots more Dragonfish Slot Sites to choose from. Whether they are called Dragonfish slot sites or not is a different matter, but an expansion of the network seems inevitable. Now the focus is on casino (and sports) sites, rather than bingo it is surely the case that there will be a lot more of them.

These could be a mixture of directly owned and operated titles like the iconic 888 Casino, and / or ‘white label’ brands which are designed on the Dragonfish platform (known as ‘Casinoflex’) for other independent operators.

Either way, the quality is likely to be exceptional, with Dragonfish already renowned for their practical platform, flexible payment options and excellent gaming software choices. Dragonfish casino sites already offer a wide range of payments, including debit cards, Apple Pay, PayPal, Paysafecard, Pay by Phone and others. All the main gaming software providers are also licenced and available for operators and players to choose from. These include the biggest names, such as NetEnt, Microgaming, IGT and Playtech, together with further innovative designers like Red Tiger, Yggdrasil and more.

An additional advantage for existing and new Dragonfish slot sites is that the divestment of the bingo side of the business will also enable the company to focus on technical and software upgrades to their platform and casino sites.

Summary

These are exciting times for Dragonfish slot players. Recent corporate dealings mean that online gaming giants 888 Holdings will be investing much more of their time and money into their online casino interests. For Dragonfish slots, this may mean a re-branding and a new look. At the very least, it is likely to lead to some innovative changes and impressive upgrades to the platform and existing sites’ layout and games.

Plus of course, there are likely to be plenty of new sites to enjoy. So be sure to check out this page here at New Dragonfish Slot Sites for the all latest news and information.
